The World Translation Fund intends to gather a board of private donors from all continents who understand that translation is an operative concept that can: 1. Promote inter-cultural deep understanding. 2. Preserve linguistic and cultural diversity through the translation of literary and intellectual works. 3. Encourage “translation citizenship” in an attempt to fight the increasing marginalization of identities.
The WTF takes on the cosmopolitan ideal of a citizenship beyond nations and the philanthropic engagement with education and the humanities, all the while adapting to the realities, conflicts and tensions of the 21st century. As the Fund is launched, its first projects will include:
★ Financing translations from the annual “Finnegan’s List”
★ Financing TLHUB.org, the inter-cultural and translation tool
★ Financing target translation programs with directly political purposes
★ Financing translation training programs in universities and high schools
The idea of this Fund, promoted by the European Society of Authors, is therefore to establish an endowment to ensure the future of its projects so that translation may become an active tool for inter-cultural deep understanding.
The World Translation Fund’s path will be one of pragmatism and concrete action. To commit, simply contact us.
