Listing the gaps in European translation

In the spring of 2008 an appeal was issued by a group of philosophers, artists and researchers, including Yves Bonnefoy, Edgar Morin, Barbara Cassin, Etienne Balibar, Adonis and Michel Deguy. The signataries of the 2008 appeal voiced their wish for a "common European culture."

With the help of its signatories and supported by its network of readers, sponsors, publishers and mediators, the European Society of Authors proposes to publish, annually, a list of under-translated works or forgotten books - the Finnegan's List.

In October 2010 the first Finnegan's List was presented at the Frankfurt Book Fair. This list of 30 under-translated books recommended by 10 famous polyglot writers represents their combined personal choices. A new list will be published every year.

Over the years these lists will grow to constitute a veritable archive of important qualitative works for the consolidation of a common European culture.
