Andreï Kurkov

Born in 1961 in Leningrad, USSR. He began his career as an author while doing his military service as a prison guard in Odessa. His first novel Smert'postoronnego (Death and the Penguin, 1996) was an international success. He is the author of 13 novels and 5 books for children. His work is currently translated into 32 languages. He speaks 9 languages.
